Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Part 2 of 2

Make sure you read Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Part 1 of 2 before continuing.

Let’s get right into it!

Traffic

When determining your search engine (SE) rank – Google looks at how much traffic do you already have coming to your website without using their search engine. They want to see that you are getting traffic from other sources because that shows them your website is quality and can attract other people. The more traffic you get on your own – the more Google will respect your website and pin it as an authority for that topic. You can get traffic from many different sources on the internet and you will find that out in the “links” part of this article.

Originality

There are way too many people out there that copy material or try to “trick” Google with grey hat SEO tactics. Let us tell you something – YOU CANNOT TRICK GOOGLE! Even if you get away with it for a little bit – Google will eventually find out and crush you like a bug. You will be blacklisted from Google and have to start from square one. There is no quick fix or automatic way when you’re building a brand. There are software’s and programs out there that promise you they can get around Google by slightly changing articles to make them look unique. This will never get your website any respect so stop trying to take shortcuts. Everything you come out with must be unique and Google will see this and love you for it.

Keywords

You have to do a little bit of research to see what keywords will be the best fit for your website. You can do your research using Google’s External Keyword Tool. With this tool you can find out some very valuable information about the SE’s. Once you do a search, you want to target keywords that have somewhere in the 1,000 to 10,000 range of people who are searching for that specific keyword. Don’t try to be Hercules and go for the top searches because you don’t stand a chance unless you’re already a large established website. Once you’ve picked a few keywords that look appealing and coincide with your website then it’s time to target them.

Now it’s time to write articles about those specific keywords – the right way. By following a few steps you will already be ahead of the masses.

Step 1: Include the keywords in your articles headline because that shows Google right off the bat what your article is about.

Step 2: Include the keywords in the first sentence of your article to give Google reassurance that your headline matches what the article is actually about.

Step 3: Keep consistently using your keyword throughout the article to achieve a keyword density of 1-3%. This will show Google that your entire article is focused on this one keyword. You can check your keyword density here: Check Density. Be careful not to deviate too much from 1-3% because anything more than that could be considered spamming keywords and that would result in loss of creditability with Google and a lower SE rank.

Links

When there are a lot of links coming back to your website from different sources then you will be looked at as an authority to Google. Google says wow look at these references back to this site – it must be good quality. There are so many ways to get links back to website that it’s impossible to talk about them all here. All the internet marketing strategies we will be going into are all ways to build links back to your website. Terms you may have heard of before are back linking, link sharing/exchanging and link building. These will be covered in our future articles. The main thing to note here for SEO purposes is to make sure that every time you post a link on a website, the anchor text has your target keywords in it. The anchor text is the highlighted link that people actually click on to go back to your website. For some reason Google treats people who do this very well.

First off I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I’ve had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there. I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints? Cheers!

Thank you for the comment. Usually what I do is think of the topics I want to write about and put them all down. Then I add sub categories to the topic that relate to the main topic. Then I just expand on those sub categories and the post pretty much writes itself. I’m personally moving in the direction of video and audio and having them transcribed for me because I find that you can produce a lot more content that way and spread the word in a bigger way.
